Wow! This just saved my Dad a whole bunch of money as we were going to bring it to the dealer... '99 Passat and the shifter button was stuck. We'd been trying everything to get this fixed and AAA had no clue. Thanks!!!

It worked for me and my 2000 Passat...I couldn't push the button with the shifter in Park, so I moved it down and over all the while pressing the button. The button went in after moving the shifter out of park, and voila! Thanks!

Great commentary throughout this blog... nicely done.

One thing I'd like to see more often,though, is acknowledgement that Apple's no-Flash stance is due somewhat/mostly/exclusively to the fact that they want QuickTime and/or other Apple standards to be used instead of Flash.

Mister Jobs spins a good story, but the "too much battery life" story on Flash is a bit tired.

It looks like someone finally came out with an app that avoids Safari. If activesync isn't enabled on the server, it still lets users download e-mails into a nice app. Check it out:

I have recently released an app for OWA into the app store called Outlook Web Email (theres a free version to give it a try as well!). It allows for a cleaner and easier to use interface than safari OWA in my opinion, but any feedback is appreciated!

Ok, I have a 2002 passat and recently had this issue but what I found to work to prevent this is to first put the car in park Secondly take your foot off the brake then turn the car off. Since I've done this the key has never gotten stuck in the ignition.

I love my Passat, but would like to drive it and park without fear of having my car stolen. I will try to release my key following your suggestion. Hope it works or I'll have to dig out "TheClub".

Yep, the VW guy actually told me this when I called for service, and it does indeed work. My car is a 2007 Passat- and this just happened to me today. SO glad it came out!!

Thank you! I was watching a friends car and needed to move it off the streets and the same thing happened. Read some other blogs about issues with wires but didn't find any to jiggle. Found your site and it worked like a charm. Thought I was going to have to take it in before they came back.

Thank you so much locked my 07 passat with my wifes keys . She has a 2010 passat. Pushed the fob button and the keys came out. Thank you so much saved me money.

My 1999 Passat had a more severe problem. I have had the problem discussed by others but my shifter would not enter PARK easily and the button would not come out. Since the temperature was around zero fahrenheit I decided to leave the key in the ignition and remove the fob so I could at least lock the car. I assumed that as soon as temperature reached 32 degrees to shifter would work normally and a few days later the tempertures rose and the problem disappeared.

Great review! I'm very impressed with all the listed pro for the Droid Vs the Iphone. I've been thinking about one of these devices but really been sold on the Iphone. In my opinion I don't see much for improvement from the very 1st Iphone till todays! I've been wanting improvements that make me scream WOW!! Thats awesome! But nope. It seems Apple and AT&T is just starting to catch up to what my old Moto Razr from 2003 can do (MMS, tethering) Thers no arguing the fact that the Iphone has a very nice user interface but lacks all the basic functionality that I desire such as the 5MP camera with a flash, DVD quality Video, expandable memory, easy access to the battery, ability to run multiple apps at once. Thank you again for the great review. DROID!!!

I tested the Sprint Hero for work (soon to test the Verizon Droid) and I am also an iPhone 3GS user as my normal phone. I could not agree more with everything you had to say. It is a great phone and I am glad that vendors are finally starting to step away from Windows Mobile to something that is much better. While (I agree) it is still not the iPhone, it is much closer than anything else has been.

My Passat is a 2006 and has no overdrive button. The key is stock and no mater how many times I presss the button on the side of the shifter, the key will not release.
Any new ideas?

my friend and i spotted a big foot in wintergreen gorge while camping up by the highway in the late70's the encounter lasted for two hours i will never forget the blood curdling screams it seemed as if he was stalking us tying to scare us off. it didnt work and we stayed.
